I’ve come back after year to the book My experience with souls in Purgatory of Maria Simma. Author was visited by the suffering Souls from Purgatory and she describes a true stories. This book has a new meaning to me now and somehow soothe all tough moments. I’d love to quote a few verses: the souls delivered by our prayer are extremely grateful and they help us in our lives; it’s most perceptible. They do help us; they know our needs and obtain many graces for us. The souls in Purgatory can no longer do anything for themselves; they are totally helpless. If the living do not pray for them, they are totally abandoned. Therefore, it is very important to realize the immense power, the incredible power that each one of us has in his hands to relieve these souls who suffer. She writes also about offer a sufferings but pass them throughout the Holy Hands of Our Lady, ’cause only she knows the best where our prayer is needed the most. The Mass, the Holy Rosary and the Stations of the Cross are very beneficial to them also. Maria knew from the souls that even the smallest prayer and sacrifice is like giving a cool glass of water in travelling through the driest desert. Maria highlights the weight of the sins which most lead to Purgatory that there are all those against charity, against the love of one’s neighbor, hardness of heart, hostility, slandering, calumny — all these things. Questioned of saying wicked things and calumny that they are among the worst blemishes which require a long purification – Maria confirmed it. She said also that Our Lady comes often to console them and to tell them they have done many good things and she encourages them. Asked of how to avoid Purgatory and go straight to Heaven – Maria said that we must do a great deal for the souls in Purgatory, for they help us in their turn. We must have much humility; this is the greatest weapon against evil, against the Evil One. Humility drives evil away. Maria highlighted also that we should not always consider suffering as a punishment. Christ was innocence itself and he suffered the most for the expiation of our sins. Only in Heaven will we know all that we have obtained by suffering with patience in union with the sufferings of Christ.
So, following the words of Fr Twardowski “let us hurry to love people they depart so quickly”.
The Lord told St. Gertrude the prayer below which would release 1000 souls from purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners too:
“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen.”
